Into Her Opal Eyes I Gazed

Into her opal eyes I gazed
A
nd there I stood, transfixed and dazed
As through the colored mists I caught
A flighty glimpse of fleeting thought

They took me by surprise, those eyes
As I glanced about the place
For suddenly mine came to rest
On her pale, angelic face

Into those eyes I gazed for days
Or just a moment?—I cannot say!
Whate’er the span, a second or day
A lifetime of wonder was mine to gain

Amazed I stood that autumn night
Inside the marble hall
Then suddenly my vision passed...
She blinked; and that was all
